We are a new farm on a property that dates back almost 150 years, with sunlit pastures and winding paths leading visitors back in time... Back to a time when picking wildflowers or petting a sheep could happily take up the better part of an afternoon.
We've created a free-range paradise for children where they can hang out with chickens, befriend a pygmy goat (or two), pan for sparkling gemstones in the 1870 gem mines, cuddle with an alpaca, get dirty in our garden, go fishing in our pond stocked with trophy bass, catfish, and bream, make homemade goat milk soap, and so much more!
Our adult programs include Yoga, Farming, Gardening and guest workshops.
Have something to celebrate? The barn is ready for your special event, wedding, family, or corporate function! Attach a tent to our barn and the possibilities are endless. The ancient oak trees which shade the farm and the golden light streaming through their branches are a photographer's dream. The grassy field is a perfect setting for a big family celebration. We are here to share our beautiful farm with you! If you can imagine it, we will do our best to make it happen!
The best part is that all of this can be found just minutes away from the UNC Campus, the heart of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Help us grow with your requests and ideas. At 1870, we strive to be the premier Green Care Farm in North Carolina, offering opportunities to connect with nature and enrich your mind and body.
"I recently held a small exercise session on the farm, which involved planting pumpkins. It was geared to seniors and it was amazing how some of my clients performed outside of the normal gym atmosphere, now they have no excuse when I get them back in the gym.
"I have watched animals on the 1870 Farm helping children and adults with social skills, and at the same time watching the animals improve their social skills with the help of visitors to the farm."

“I cannot say how excited I am to use the 1870 farm for a wedding. It is a perfect blank canvas with so many options and David has been wonderful to deal with.”
