A question that is coming up more frequently is can the "kids" do more that one specialized activity? A popular request recently with the beautiful autumn wheater is can we do gemstone mining and fishing? My response so far has been "lets try it". It seems now that the mining sluices which are located in the main barn are operaitional, it has become a super hit. We set up the mining center in the barn so we can be operational rain or shine, warm weather or winter, as we can bring some of the farm animals right into the barn and into the mining area whi

Fainting Goats at the 1870 Farm

As we continue to focus on Childrens birthday events at the 1870 Farm we thought it interesting to add to Mytonic Goats to our farm. Our two goats 9 and 11 weeks old have been introduced with our pygmy goats and after a day of checking each other out all seem to be getting along, although both breeds have been mostly staying to themselves today. If you would like to learn more about Fainting Goats please visit this website. http://myotonicgoatregistry.net Lots of interesting facts and a bit of history of how they first appeared in Tenesseee in the 1870's which we found to be a very good time of that century. Above is "Sunshine" Name TBD

The 1870 Farm mining company

We are happy to announce we decided to expand our mining operations with the addition of two new mining sluices which we hope to have operational before months end. One Sluice is expected to be installed close to Miner Moes cabin, the other mining sluice will be installed inside our main barn, this will enable us to offer mining during rainy days as well. We plan on enventually opening a gem and rock shop within the farm as we expect mining operations to grow. Currently miners young and old can work with Mner Moe to discover Fossils, Gemstones, Arrowheads, and even sharks teeth! Our onite specialist Justin will help identify items found after sifting, or wandering the mining area's of the fa
